Cast Clockwise

How to Cast clockwise in Scottish Country Dances.

Dance clockwise around the Outside of a Square or other Circular set for one Place or the specified number if different.

When starting from a stationary Position, first Pull back the right shoulder so as to Turn on the spot and then Dance away Outside The set, i.e., go the long way round; if more music than necessary is allowed (see Timing), start by first Dancing toward the centre of The set and replace the Turn on the spot by a spiral path.

For example, here are some Scottish Country Dances in which the term, Cast clockwise, is used in either the MiniCrib or the MaxiCrib Dance instructions or both -
Bailey's Irish Cream
Brisk Young Lad
Grimaldi 700
MacLeod's Fancy
White Rabbit (Skelton)
