1- 8 1s set and cast down 1 place, 1s dance LSh round 1st corner to finish back to back in centre of set facing 1st corner
9-16 Saltire figure:-
' 9-10 1s dance out to 1st corner position while 2M and 3L dance across set as 2L and 3M dance into centre and turn LH to face 3rd corner position
' 11-12 2L and 3M dance out to 3rd corner position while 1L and 1M dance across set as 2M and 3L dance into centre and turn LH to face 1st corner position
' 13-14 2M and 3L dance out to 1st corner position while 2L and 3M dance across set as 1s dance into centre and turn LH to face 3rd corner position
' 15-16 1s dance out to 3rd corner position while 2M and 3L dance across set as 2L and 3M dance on one place up/down on opposite side to end:-

  1-4   1s set and cast one place;

  5-8   1L up, 1M down, half figures of 8 across, pulling left shoulder back to finish back-to-back, facing first corners;

  9-16 the saltire:

  9-10 1s dance out to first corner positions, pulling right shoulder back to finish facing across the set WHILE first corners cross, finishing facing each other on the second corners' diagonal WHILE second corners advance and turn by the left ¾ to finish facing the first corner position one place clockwise;

11-12 repeat bars 9-10 from new positions;

13-14 repeat bars 9-10 from new positions;

15-16 1s (in the centre) and 3L 2M (in the first corner positions) repeat bars 9-10 WHILE 2L 3M (in the second corner positions), dance one place clockwise around the set, finishing 1M2L2M on the Mn's side, 3L3M1L on the Ls' side;

17-20 all set and dance 6 hands round to the left two places to finish 2s1s3s, 1s on opposite sides;

21-24 1L up, 1M down, half figures of 8 across, finishing 2s1s3s;

25-28 1s3s dance set and link for 2, finishing 2s3s1s;

29-32 3s1s 4 hands round to the left.

Dance Notes

  9-16 The basic element of the saltire is the 2-bar figure, exactly as in bars 11-12 and bars 13-14, always starting with a "couple" (1s or the original second corners or the original first corners) left shoulder to left shoulder in the centre, facing out on the first corners' diagonal, with the dancers in the first corners' positions facing across the set and with those in the second corners' positions facing each other.

  9-10 The starting position of the basic element is slightly modified so that the 1s, in the centre, are back-to-back rather than side-by-side.

15-16 The finishing position of the basic element is modified so that the dancers in the second corners' positions chase one place clockwise on the sides of the corners' square instead of dancing in to the centre.

    -20 1s must take care to finish in 2nd place on opposite sides.
