Scottish Country Dance Instruction

Schottische   n x 16 bars   1 Couple Repeat   1 Couple Set   Round the Room Set

Maintain waltz hold throughout, starting with L facing inwards, M facing outwards, and progress anticlockwise round the room.

1-4      Dance one highland schottische step anticlockwise (M starting with left foot, L with right);
5-8      dance one highland schottische step clockwise;
9-10    chassé (step, close, step, close) to the M's left, L's right;
11-12  chassé to the M's right, L's left;
13-16  polka once round to finish facing in the same direction.

Dance Notes

1-8      Although the highland schottische step is the same as in a Strathspey, the tempo is faster and 4 bars are allocated for each foot instead of 2.
13-16  Make some progression anticlockwise in the polka round.
