Local Directions-
Portal Hall is 1½ miles past Newtown Village Hall going south on Harts lane.
Find where the road called Church Lane, meets the road called Harts Lane (from The Swan public house at Newtown to Burghclere).
Here you will find a war memorial on a triangular piece of land at that junction.
Burghclere church is on the south side of Church Lane and Portal Hall is on the North side.

If you are going to Portal Hall from Newtown direction you will need to make a right turn in order to stay on Harts Lane about 100 metres before the hall. If you miss the first right turn to stay on Harts Lane, simply carry on and take the next right hand turn (at the next cross-road) down Church Lane where you will find the hall on the right hand side where the road meets Harts Lane.
If you find the gate on Harts Lane locked go around to the gate on Church Lane.

You may find it more simple to use the A34 western Newbury bypass rather than coming through Newbury. Portal hall is just 1 mile from the Tot Hill junction. If you are coming southbound on the A34 be sure not to miss the turning off at Tot Hill (8.5 miles from J13 M4), the next turning to get you back is a 10 mile detour!

Your SatNav should get you straight to Portal Hall, or at least close enough to find the war memorial and the church from where you can see the hall on the opposite corner.

Access to the car park is normally from Church Lane or sometimes from Harts Lane (entrance next to The Sports Club).
Additional parking may be found along Church Lane, but not along Harts Lane.

The sprung wooden dance floor can take 8 sets, or 4 sets with tables all down one side.

Hall Bookings (available to locals only) Tel: 01635 46340

Local Directions-
Find where the road called Jonathon Hill, meets the road called Harts Lane (from The Swan public house at Newtown to Burghclere)
Here you will find 2 unmetalled tracks to the left hand side (as you face Jonathon Hill), one signposted to 'The Village Hall' and the other, which has a sharp-bend chevron to each side.
If you are coming from the Newbury direction you will find the tracks 100 metres after you have driven past a sharp left bend, behind you to your left, as you approach Jonathon Hill. Take either of these tracks. Picture of the approach to Newtown village hall.
The first, signposted to the village hall, will require an extremely sharp left-hand turn (elbow-grips advised) and will take you straight to the hall, the first building on your left after 100 metres.
It is better to take the second track (between the 2 chevrons) but you will need to turn left again after 90 metres (also signposted to 'The Village Hall'). Where this track joins the first, turn right and find the hall to be the first building to your left.

Parking is limited so please park very close to the bumpers of the other cars so that more may get parked. There is overflow parking on the green, or in emergency use the public car park on the other side of Jonathon Hill, but this car park is less secure and the track down from there may be dark, wet and pot-holed!

Your SatNav will not get you closer than Jonathon Hill.

The sprung wooden dance floor can take 3 sets (of friendly dancers)
