Starting

In Scottish Country Dancing Starting Place or Starting Position is used to refer to the situation as it was at the beginning of a Figure; depending upon the Figure, it may be a Standing Place or anywhere Inside or just Outside the Active set. Original is mostly, depending upon the context, used to refer to the situation as it was at the beginning of either the Active set or the Full set and so refers to a specific Standing Place.

For example, here are some Scottish Country Dances in which the term, Starting, is used in either the Minicrib or the Maxicrib Dance instructions or both -
Axum Reel
Ca' Canny.
Fitzroy Fancy
Glasgow Highlanders.
Scamp
White Heather Jig
