Scottish Country Dancing Dictionary

Starting

In Scottish Country Dancing Starting Place or Starting Position is used to refer to the situation as it was at the beginning of a Figure; depending upon the Figure, it may be a Standing Place or anywhere Inside or just Outside the Active set. Original is mostly, depending upon the context, used to refer to the situation as it was at the beginning of either the Active set or the Full set and so refers to a specific Standing Place.
Here are examples of those Scottish Country Dances for which we have instructions on this site and in which the term, Starting, either appears explicitly or is implied; note that for a common term these will be a small selection; for a rare term, these may be all that exist:

Axum Reel
Ca' Canny
Fitzroy Fancy
Glasgow Highlanders
Scamp
White Heather Jig
