Cross

For a single Scottish Country Dancer in a Longwise set, Cross means Dance forwards, straight Across The set to the other Side. For two Dancers, usually a Couple, Facing each other in a Longwise set, Cross means Dance forwards, straight Across The set so as to Exchange places, Taking Right hands unless otherwise specified.

For two adjacent Dancers on the Sides of a Longwise or a Square or other Circular set, this means Exchange places, Taking Right hands unless otherwise specified.

Note that the above applies only when Cross is used without qualification; see the explanation in Crossing and the many pages linked to it for a full description of other usage.
