Captain MacDonald's Fancy is an old country dance of unknown authorship, published by the London music publishers Longman and Broderip in about 1790. The RSCDS published its interpretation of the dance in Book 7 in 1931.As with many old country dances, the earliest surviving publication should not necessarily be taken as the date or place of origin; the dance may have circulated for some time before being published, and earlier sources may have been lost or remain undiscovered.
The identity of the Captain MacDonald for whom the dance was named is unknown.
