Scottish Country Dance Instruction
The Coin Collector 5x32 Strathspey for 5C by Sue McKinnell1-8 1C dance parallel figures of eight on their own sides, beginning by passing right shoulder with the person below them. Similarly, 5C dance parallel figures of eight on their own sides, beginning by passing right shoulder with the person above them. 1W and 5M end facing out.
9-14 Meanwhile figure (timing is very important in this figure):
3C dance a petronella turn into lines across the set, 3W up with 2C, 3M down with 4C, set in lines across, and dance a petronella turn to opposite sides while
1W followed by 1M cast down 1 place, dance between the lines formed by 2C, 3C, and 4C and cast to 5th place on own sides while
5M followed by 5W cast up 1 place, dance between the lines formed by 2C, 3C, and 4C and cast to 1st place on own sides. Order is 5, 2, 3, 4, 1 with 3C on opposite sides.
(Note: 1C and 5C pass LS as they dance between the lines formed by the other couples.)
15-16 All take hands on the sides and set.
17-24 5C and 2C, 4C and 1C circle left and back while 3C turn BH twice round then cross RH and dance a loop (ala Hooper's Jig) around to the left outside the set and back into place on own sides.
25-32 1C and 4C dance RH across halfway. 1C and 3C dance LH across halfway. 1C and 2C dance RH across halfway. 1C, 2C, 3C, and 4C cross LH with partners. Ending order is 5, 1, 2, 3, 4.
Repeat 5 times.
