Ingredients:
- Pie or tart crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh or frozen cranberries
- Granulated sugar
- Orange zest
- Orange juice
- Cornstarch
- Vanilla extract
- Egg (for egg wash)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Crust:
If using a store-bought crust, follow package instructions. For homemade crust, roll out the dough and line a tart pan. Pre-bake the crust if your recipe suggests. -
Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven according to the tart recipe instructions. -
Prepare Cranberry Filling:
In a mixing bowl, combine fresh or frozen cranberries, sugar, orange zest, orange juice, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss the ingredients until the cranberries are coated evenly. -
Fill the Tart Shell:
Spread the cranberry mixture evenly over the prepared tart crust. -
Decorate and Vent:
If desired, use extra dough to create a lattice or decorative pattern on top of the cranberries. Cut slits in the dough to allow steam to escape during baking. -
Egg Wash:
Beat an egg and brush it over the top of the tart. This gives the crust a shiny finish. -
Bake:
Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake according to the recipe instructions, usually until the crust is golden brown, and the cranberry filling is bubbly. -
Cool:
Allow the cranberry tart to cool in the pan for a bit before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. -
Serve:
Once cooled, slice and serve the cranberry tart. It's delicious on its own or can be served with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Enjoy your homemade Cranberry Tart!
