Scottish Country Dance Instruction

Dervaig House (S6x32) 2C (3C set) Lewis N Derrick 1988

1-4 The 1st woman and 2nd man set advancing and turn by the right hand back to places
5-8 The 1st man and 2nd woman set advancing and turn three quarters round by the right hand to end in the middle facing their own partners on the diagonal
9-16 Passing partners by right shoulders to begin, the 1st and 2nd couples dance a diagonal reel of four, on bars 15-16 the 1st man and 2nd woman turn three-quarters round by the left hand to end in own places facing out
17-24 The 1st and 2nd couples dance the figure of a ladies' chain, to begin the 1st woman and 2nd man cross right to their partners' original places while the 1st man casts down one place and the 2nd woman casts up one place, then giving left hands the 1st and 2nd couples half turn own partners on sidelines, repeating bars 17-20 to end in original places all facing in
25-32 The 1st and 2nd couples set on sidelines then dance three-quarter rights and lefts to change places

This strathspey, Dervaig House, was devised by Lewis Derrick to commemorate Jean and Wilson Nicol, whose home in Caversham was called 'Dervaig House'.

Suggested tune: Fiddler Play the Light Strathspey.
