Scottish Country Dance Instruction

Gold In The West (R6x32) A 32 bar reel for three couples in a four-couple longwise set. John Brenchley 2019

1- 4 1st couple, giving right hands, cross over and cast off to second place.
2nd couple step up on bars 3 - 4.
5- 8 1st couple, giving left hands, cross below 3rd couple and cast up to second place on own sides.
9-12 1st couple set advancing towards each other (2 bars) then, giving 2 hands and using bas de basque steps, turn half way, releasing hands and pulling back by the right shoulder at the end of bar 12 to finish back to back facing opposite sides.
13-16 1st couple dance out through second place on opposite sides and cast to the right round first corner positions to finish with 1st woman in the middle facing down in first place and 1st man in the middle facing up in third place.
3rd woman and 2nd man dance in and, giving right hands, turn halfway round to face each other. On bar 15, they release hands and cast by the right to finish in each other's places.
17-20 1st couple set advancing towards each other (2 bars) then, giving 2 hands and using bas de basque steps, turn half way, releasing hands and pulling back by the right shoulder at the end of bar 20 to finish back to back, 1st lady facing down and 1st man facing up.
21-24 1st couple dance out through the ends of the set and cast to the right round second corner positions to finish back to back in the centre with 1st woman facing down and 1st man facing up.
2nd woman and 3rd man, giving right hands, turn halfway round to face each other. On bar 23, they release hands and cast by the right to finish in each other's places.
25-27 1st man dances three hands round to the left with 3rd couple (at the top) while 1st woman dances three hands round to the left with 2nd couple (at the bottom).
28-30 1st couple release left hands and 1st man leads 3rd couple down the women's side while 1st woman leads 2nd couple up the men's side to dance six hands round to the left. Finish in the order 2, 1, 3 all on own sides.
31-32 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples set.

Repeat, having passed a couple.
