Itchy Feet - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
The expression "itchy feet" is an informal phrase used to describe a strong desire to travel, move on or experience something new.It does not refer to a physical sensation, but rather a restless feeling, often linked to boredom, curiosity or a longing for change. People might say they have itchy feet when they feel eager to leave their current surroundings or situation, whether that involves changing jobs, taking a trip, or seeking new experiences.
The phrase is typically used to describe someone who finds it hard to stay in one place for long. It often applies to those who enjoy adventure or dislike routine, and can reflect a need for personal growth or discovery. In some cases, it may refer to someone who is frequently on the move or who cannot resist the urge to explore new places.
Although the origins of the phrase are not precisely known, it has been used for many decades in English-speaking countries. Its meaning is widely understood, even if the wording itself is figurative. The imagery of feet feeling itchy suggests an inner urge to walk away, step forward or simply go somewhere different.
"Itchy feet" can apply to various situations, from someone planning a gap year or world trip, to a person who changes careers often or is always seeking a fresh start. It captures a restlessness that is not necessarily negative, but more a sign of ambition, curiosity or dissatisfaction with staying still for too long.
