Dance Information

Loch Ericht is a freshwater loch located on the border between Perth and Kinross and the Highlands of Scotland. Oriented north-east to south-west, it lies near the village of Dalwhinnie and is Scotland's tenth-largest freshwater loch, known for its trout fishing, including Ferox trout.

The loch occupies a glacial breach in the former Grampian divide, shaped by the Loch Ericht Fault, a feature of the Caledonian Orogeny. Ice excavation has carved a trench at least 450 m deep, displacing the watershed north-east to Dalwhinnie.

It is dammed at both ends as part of a hydro-electric scheme, with water directed into the Cuaich Aqueduct and a pipeline to Loch Rannoch.

Surrounded by Munros such as Ben Alder and Geal-Chàrn, the loch is bordered by traditional hunting areas, including the Ben Alder Forest.
