Loch Fitty Jig - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
Loch Fitty is a freshwater loch located in Fife, Scotland, near the village of Kingseat, northeast of Dunfermline.Spanning approximately 160 acres, it has played a significant role in the local area over the years. Historically, the loch was used as a water source for industrial purposes, including cooling operations at the nearby Longannet Power Station.
In 2012, Loch Fitty was drained to accommodate coal mining activities conducted by Scottish Coal. However, after the company went into liquidation, efforts began to restore the loch to its natural state. Before the drainage, Loch Fitty was a popular destination for anglers, particularly those interested in trout fishing.
Since being refilled, Loch Fitty has gradually regained its ecological balance, supporting a variety of wildlife, including numerous bird species and aquatic life. The ongoing restoration and management efforts are focused on enhancing the loch's environmental value, ensuring it continues to thrive as a natural habitat.
