Dance Information

Lock and Dam No. 5 is a lock and dam on the Upper Mississippi River, located at river mile 738.1 between Buffalo County, Wisconsin, and Winona County, Minnesota.

It was constructed and became operational in May 1935, with major rehabilitation carried out between 1987 and 1998. The dam features a 1,619-foot (493.5 m) concrete structure with six roller gates and 28 tainter gates, along with an 18,000-foot (5,486.4 m) earth embankment.

The lock measures 110 feet (33.5 m) in width and 600 feet (182.9 m) in length. The facility is owned and operated by the St. Paul District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Mississippi Valley Division.
