In August 2021 Damon and I had a 2-week MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) experiences in the Grand Millennium in Auckland. This dance was devised in our hotel room, our room number was 541.1-8 Using the number 5. Each day you were allowed 30 minutes exercise outside in either the foyer or level 4, there were arrows directing you to walk round clockwise. So, the turns in bars 1-4 go clockwise, and then 5Cs circle halfway round clockwise, in an orderly fashion.
9-12 Using number 4, we dance RHs across.
13-16 One day during our 30-minute walkabout my arthritic hips were extra sore, so I went into the middle of this large circle and started walking around anticlockwise. Within 30 seconds the army officer watching us, approached and asked me in a very friendly fashion to change direction.
We managed well in limited space, with limited human contact, and limited food variation. Thank goodness for email, YouTube, and zooming friends and family. Our 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, our books, knitting, a great selection of TV channels, and a good sense of humour goes a long way.
Recommended tune: "A Starter for Ten" from the CD Reel On by Jim Lindsay and Muriel Johnstone.

Managed Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) was a quarantine initiative implemented by the New Zealand Government during the COVID-19 pandemic. Announced by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern on April 9, 2020, it mandated a 14-day isolation at MIQ facilities for individuals entering the country, COVID-19 positive cases, and some close contacts.
Effective from midnight on the same day, the government contracted numerous hotels across five cities exclusively for managed isolation. The MIQ unit, part of the COVID-19 All-of-Government Response Group, organized this effort.
As of March 10, 2022, the New Zealand Government revealed plans to phase out the MIQ system as part of reopening borders. While most facilities would revert to hotels, four would be retained for necessary quarantine.
COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins estimated that by March 2022, the MIQ system had accommodated 230,000 individuals returning to New Zealand and 4,400 people who had contracted COVID-19 in the community.
