1- 8 1s set, cast 1 place, cross RH and dance round 1st corner RSh to end in centre above below 2s/3s
9-16 1s dance RH (1L with 2s and 1M with 3s), 2s+3s dance LH across while 1s chase clockwise ½ way
17-24 1s dance RH across with other couple, 2s+3s dance LH across while 1s chase ½ way clockwise
25-32 1s turn in centre to 2nd place opposite sides while 2s+3s set and cross RH, 2s+1s+3s set and cross back

The deviser, John Wilkinson, was living in Musselburgh at the time.

The river, North Esk, is a tributary of the river Esk, which flows into the Firth of Forth at Musselburgh.
