A Pawling Reel - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
This dance was devised by John Drewry for the members of the RSCDS New York Branch to mark their 25th Pawling Weekend. The phrase is a humorous play on words, because "A Pawling Weekend" sounds similar to "Appalling Weekend", replacing a negative expression with the name of the dance event.
The Pawling Weekend is a residential Scottish country dancing event organised by the New York Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, combining dance classes, social dancing, live Scottish music, evening balls and communal meals in a relaxed countryside setting.
Dancers of varying experience levels attend for a sociable weekend of workshops, traditional music, ceilidh dancing and informal gatherings, with on-site accommodation at The Ashokan Center in the Catskill Mountains of New York.
