Scottish Country Dance Instruction

THE PHANTOM PIPER (J4x32) 4C set Barry Priddey Phantom Piper Set
3s and 4s start on opposite sides

1- 8 All set, 1s+4s ½ turn RH into prom hold while 2s and 3s cast to ends, 1s and 4s dance ½ reels of 3 across (1s RSh to 2M and 4s RSh to 3M)
9-12 1s+4s dance ½ RH across, ½ turn partner RH into prom hold to face 2nd corner (2L/3L) while 2s+3s set and cross back RH
13-16 4s+1s dance ½ reel with 2nd corners, 4s+1s dance round each other RSh ¾ way to face 1st corner (2M/3M)
17-24 4s+1s dance ½ reel with 1st corners, 4s+1s pass RSh (1s face up, 4s down) and dance out between end couples and cast to 2nd/3rd places
25-32 3s+1s also 4s+2s dance R&L to end 31(4)(2)

Jig 4 x 32 bars 4 Couple Repeat 4 Couple Set Longwise Set

3s 4s cross on second chord.

  1-2   All set on the sides;

  3-4   2s cast up WHILE 3s cast down WHILE 1s 4s turn by the right into promenade hold finishing 1s facing 2M, 4s facing 3M;

  5-8   2M1s2L 3L4s3M half reels of 3 across (starting with right shoulder);

  9-12 2s3s set and cross by the right WHILE 1s4s right hands across halfway and turn partners into promenade position, 4s facing 2L (in 1L's place), 1s facing 3L;

13-16 3L1s4s2L half diagonal reel of 4, finishing with 1s 4s passing right shoulder;

17-20 2M4s1s3M half diagonal reel of 4, finishing with 1s 4s passing right shoulder;

21-24 1s lead up between 2s and cast to 2nd place WHILE 4s lead down between 3s and cast up to 3rd place;

25-32 3s1s 4s2s rights and lefts.
