Dance Notes

  1-32 Like the 4-couple version, this dance uses slip step throughout and so is suitable for the youngest children who haven't yet learnt any other step and are happier with 6 hands round and back rather than 4 hands round and back in two pairs of couples.

  9-12 1s take large steps.

13-16 1s take small steps to finish below 3s.

The Puggy was the nickname of the steamdriven, 0-4-0 locomotives used for shunting and shorthaul work in many industrial locations (notably distilleries and shipyards) in Scotland.
Bars 1-8 represent the driving wheels starting and reversing;
in bars 9-16, the puggy is moving around the goods yard;
bars 17-24 represent the driving wheels starting and reversing again;
in bars 25-32, the puggy takes three trucks (two in the 3-couple version) around the goods yard and shunts them back into the siding.
