Rannoch Moor - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
Rannoch Moor is a vast and sparsely populated expanse of moorland situated in the central Highlands of Scotland.Covering an area of approximately 50 square miles, it is one of the largest and most remote wilderness areas in the United Kingdom. The moor is located to the west of Loch Rannoch and extends into parts of Perth and Kinross, Stirling, and Highland council areas.
The landscape of Rannoch Moor is characterized by a combination of peat bogs, lochans (small lochs or lakes), and heath. It sits at an elevation of around 1,000 feet above sea level, contributing to its rugged and barren appearance. The moor is often enveloped in mist and receives a considerable amount of rain, resulting in challenging conditions for vegetation.
Rannoch Moor is traversed by the A82 road and the West Highland Railway line, both of which serve as vital transportation routes connecting the west and east coasts of Scotland. Despite its relatively inhospitable terrain, the moor attracts visitors interested in its natural beauty, wildlife, and the opportunity to experience the remote and unspoiled landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
