Dance Information

This reel, Ray Milbourne, is named after Ray Milbourne, the pianist. He has played with Scottish Dance bands and other musicians of note such as Frank Reid, Andrew Rankine, Iain MacPhail and Jimmy Lindsay. The lead tune for this dance is Ray Milbourne composed by Iain MacPhail.

Ray Milbourne organised a meeting in Perth on June 6th, 1971, at the Salutation Hotel in order to discuss the formation of an Association of Accordion and Fiddle Clubs. He was elected at that meeting as the clubs' first Secretary; his tenure was from 1971 to 1978. In 1972 the Association was renamed The National Association of Accordion and Fiddle Clubs, and is still going strong.

Ray Milbourne also composed dance tunes including Miss Eileen Stuart's Jig, the recommended tune for Laggan Bay, a dance devised by Bill Forbes. Ray Milbourne also played with Stuart Forbes, fiddler (the Craigevar Band).
