Rob Roy MacGregor (7 March 1671 - 28 December 1734) is the Scottish hero, who has been described as the Scottish Robin Hood.

Usually known simply as Rob Roy or alternately Red MacGregor, he was a famous Scottish folk hero and outlaw of the early 18th century. "Rob Roy" is anglicised from the Scottish Gaelic "Raibeart Ruadh", or "Red Robert". This is because Rob Roy had red hair, though it darkened to auburn in later life.
