SCOTTISH RAMBLE (S8x32) 3C (4C set) RSCDS Book 51- 8 1s cast down below 3s and lead up to top, cross and cast to 2nd place on opposite sides
9-16 1s circle 4H round to the left with 3s and dance full R&L with 2s (1 place to each bar) to face 1st corners
17-24 1s set to and turn 1st corner; set to and turn 2nd corner
25-32 1s dance 6 bar reels of 3 on sides with 2s and 3s (LSh to 1st corners) and cross to 2nd place own sides

Scottish Ramble first appeared under the title The Scotch Ramble in John Johnson's Two Hundred Favourite Country Dances, Volume 8, published about 1752. The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society later published the dance as Scottish Ramble in Book 5 in 1929.The word ramble was already in common use during the eighteenth century to describe a leisurely walk or an unhurried wander. The title therefore reflects a contemporary English usage rather than referring to a particular place or historical event.
No contemporary source explains the choice of title, but the name had already appeared in printed dance collections by the middle of the eighteenth century.
