Sixteensome Reel
Scottish Country Dance Instruction
SIXTEENSOME REEL (Double Eightsome Reel) (R40+8x48+40) 8 couple Sq.Set RSCDS Book 62 couples each side of the square, RH couple (odd numbers) are called "inside" and LH couples (even numbers) are called "outside" couples
Introduction:
1- 8 All circle 16H round and back
9-16 "Inside" Ladies dance RH across (partners on their left) in St Andrew's Cross formation with "outside" Ladies giving RH to "inside" Men to form large cross and all dance round clockwise and finish in a double circles
17-24 All set to partners twice and all turn 2H
25-40 All dance Grand Chain (2 bars per hand) in 2 concentric circles ending in original square set places.
Dance:
8 times through firstly with 1L+5L, then 2L+6L,3L+7L,4L+8L,1M+5M, 2M+6M, 3M+7M, 4M+8M
"Inside" Ladies (1L and 2L) in centre and in bars 1- 8, Set to each other for 4 and Turn for 4, (Reel of Tulloch), as other 14 all take hands and Dance around them
1- 8 With 1L+5L in centre of dance set 4 Bars and turn RH (as Reel of Tulloch) while the others dance 14H round and back
9-16 1L and 5L set to and turn partners 2H, set to and turn opposite Man 6M/2M
17-24 Dance LSh reels of 3 (1L with 6M+1M and 5L with 2M+5M) 1L and 5L both end in centre as before
25-32 1L and 5L set and turn each other LH in centre while others circle 14H round and back
33-40 1L and 5L set to and turn nearest corner Man (8M/4M), set to and turn opposite Man 3M/7M
41-48 Dance LSh reels of 3 (1L with 3M+8M and 5L with 7M+4M) and 1L and 5L retire to places as "outside" Ladies 2L and 6L go into centre

1-40 Repeat Introduction
