Dance Information
Specially written By Jim Haworth for ASHMERG Hogmanay Dance 2009."spiced wine" refers to a traditional and flavourful beverage that is a popular choice during the colder months, especially around festive seasons. Spiced wine, often known as mulled wine, is typically made by heating red wine with a combination of various spices, fruits, and sometimes sweeteners.
The preparation of spiced wine involves infusing the red wine with a blend of spices such as cinnamon, cloves, star anise, and nutmeg. Additionally, it may include citrus fruits like oranges or lemons, as well as sweeteners such as honey or sugar. The mixture is gently heated to allow the flavours to meld, creating a warming and aromatic drink that is enjoyed both for its taste and its ability to evoke a sense of comfort and festivity.
Spiced wine has a long history in British and European cultures, and its consumption is often associated with winter celebrations, Christmas markets, and gatherings. The aromatic spices and warming qualities of spiced wine make it a delightful choice for social occasions, where it is served hot in mugs or glasses.
