Dance Information

Having deep historical roots, dating back to medieval times, it was once a route leading to the city's gallows, where public executions were carried out.

It is lined with a mix of historic and modern buildings. Notable structures include the Barrowland Ballroom, an iconic music venue with a distinctive neon sign, and St. Andrew's in the Square, a restored 18th-century church.

Over the years, the Gallowgate has evolved into a cultural hub. The Barrowland Ballroom, in particular, has hosted legendary musical acts, contributing to Glasgow's reputation as a vibrant center for music and entertainment.

The Gallowgate is in close proximity to Celtic Park, the home stadium of Celtic Football Club and is home to a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants, contributing to its role as a lively and diverse part of Glasgow.

In recent years, there have been efforts to regenerate and enhance the Gallowgate area, aiming to preserve its historical character while promoting economic and cultural development.
