Dance Information

Ayr, located on the southwest coast of Scotland, is the administrative centre of South Ayrshire and the historic county town of Ayrshire. With a population of 46,982, it is Scotland's 15th largest settlement and the second largest in Ayrshire. Ayr borders Prestwick and unsuccessfully bid for city status in 2000, 2002, and 2022.

Established as a Royal Burgh in 1205, Ayr was a central marketplace and harbour in medieval times and an important port in the early modern era. Its southern bank holds a citadel built by Cromwell's men, and nearby Alloway is the birthplace of poet Robert Burns. Since the railway expansion in 1840, Ayr has been a popular tourist destination, known for its beach and golfing.

Ayr is a major retail centre in southern Scotland and was named the UK's second healthiest town centre in 2014. It hosts the Scottish Grand National since 1965 and the Scottish International Airshow since 2014.
