Quick Turn
This Figure uses the Quick turn grip. A Quick turn is essential when Time is short, especially when followed by Cast as, for example, in bars 1-2 of Mairi's Wedding. In less formal Scottish Country Dancing situations, Elbow grip or the Birl hold are equally effective.
Here are examples of those Scottish Country Dances for which we have instructions on this site and in which the term, Quick turn, either appears explicitly or is implied; note that for a common term these will be a small selection; for a rare term, these may be all that exist:
Black Mountain Reel
Eleanor's Strathspey
Hand In Hand
Katie's Ceilidh
Large Hadron Collider
Postie's Jig
Miss Sarah Smiles
Newbury's 50th Anniversary
Snake Pass
White Heather Jig
