Set To First Corners

In Scottish Country Dancing Set to first corners, Set to is a conveniently short synonym for Set Facing.

The specified Dancer(s) Face their First corner positions and all Set.

Most commonly, they will be the Dancing couple, back to back on the First corners' Diagonal, though they may be in other Positions such as 2nd Places on Opposite Sides, on the Centre line (Lady between 1st Places, Man between 3rd Places) or even 2nd Places on Own sides.

Here are examples of those Scottish Country Dances for which we have instructions on this site and in which the term, Set to first corners, either appears explicitly or is implied; note that for a common term these will be a small selection; for a rare term, these may be all that exist:

Cromarties New Rant

Edinburgh Exiles
Festival Fling
Garple Burn
Jig For Garry
Ladies Of Dunse
Mrs MacLeod (Of Raasay)
