The Music
The term The music has a special significance for Scottish Country Dancers; the position of the band or audio equipment conventionally determines how The sets are aligned and numbered and so determine which direction is Up and which Down. This rule is not immutable; in a crowded Ballroom or as determined by the Master of Ceremonies (MC) or teacher, it may be desirable to align some or all of The sets differently. See Size of the set.
The Music for Scottish Country Dancing is covered in Music for Scottish country dances and Phrasing to fit the Figures to The music is covered in Timing.
