Dance Information
This dance, J A G's Welcome To Torremolinos, was devised for Janette, Alice and George, who organised dancing holidays at Torremolinos.Torremolinos developed beside a series of water-powered mills fed by springs descending from the hills above the Mediterranean coast.
The settlement took its name from these mills and from a defensive watchtower now known as Torre Pimentel, parts of which survive in the town centre.
Until the twentieth century, Torremolinos remained a relatively small coastal settlement whose economy included milling and fishing. During the 1950s and 1960s it became one of the earliest major tourist destinations on Spain's Costa del Sol. Hotels, apartment developments and tourist facilities were constructed along the coastline as visitor numbers increased.
Torremolinos occupies approximately seven kilometres of Mediterranean coastline on the Costa del Sol. The town is a short distance from Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport and is connected to Málaga by rail and motorway.
Its beaches, year-round tourist infrastructure and convenient transport links have made it one of the principal holiday destinations in southern Spain.
