The annual festival organised by the Association of Scottish Country Dance Societies is traditionally held on the Saturday following the May Day Bank Holiday. The event brings together Scottish country dance groups from across the region and welcomes dancers of all ages and levels of experience to take part in a large shared social occasion centred on Scottish country dancing. The 40th festival eventually took place in May 2022 after being postponed for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. To mark the occasion, members of the Association produced "The Ruby Book", a collection of dances created in celebration of the festival's fortieth year. A competition was also held to select one dance for inclusion in the massed dances performed during the event.
This dance, 20-20 Vision, is the winning dance, devised by Andrew Morrison of Nottingham Scottish.
Twenty Twenty Vision, often referred to as 20/20 vision, holds significance as a term associated with visual acuity. In the field of optometry, 20/20 vision denotes the ability to see clearly at a distance of 20 feet, a standard benchmark for normal vision.
The year 2020, often colloquially referred to as "twenty-twenty", marked a globally impactful period. It was the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a health crisis that prompted widespread changes to daily life, work, and social interactions.
Beyond its association with eyesight and the impactful year, the term "Twenty Twenty Vision" is also used metaphorically to express foresight, clarity, and the ability to perceive situations with precision. It continues to be employed in various contexts to convey a clear and focused perspective, both literally and figuratively, in discussions ranging from health to planning and strategy.
