Bond, Lewis Bond 40-bar strathspey for 3 couples in a 3-couple longwise set John Brenchley 2023

1 - 4 1st couple dance towards each other, briefly join nearer hands facing up and cast off one place.
2nd couple step up on bars 3 - 4.
5 - 8 1st couple dance down between 3rd couple, cast up to second place on own sides then, giving left hand in passing, finish facing second corners.
9 - 12 1st couple dance a half diagonal reel of four with second corners. On bar 12, 1st couple, giving left hand, turn three quarters round to face first corners.
13 - 16 1st couple dance a half diagonal reel of four with first corners. On bar 16, 1st couple, giving left hands, turn three quarters round to face second corners (who are in diagonally opposite positions).
17 - 24 1st couple turn second corners with the right hand, partner three quarters with the left hand, first corners with the right hand and partner three quarters with the left hand to finish facing out in second place on opposite sides.
25 - 32 3rd, 1st and 2nd couples dance a chain progression for three couples.
25 - 26 3rd and 2nd couples, giving right hands, turn three quarters round. At the same time, 1st couple dance clockwise one quarter round.
27 - 30 3rd woman and 2nd man, giving left hands, turn one and a half times. At the same time, 1st man and 2nd woman, 1st woman and 3rd man, taking promenade hold, dance clockwise halfway round.
31 - 32 2nd and 3rd couples, giving right hands, turn three quarters round to opposite sides. At the same time, 1st couple dance clockwise one quarter round the set to second place on opposite sides.
33 - 40 2nd, 1st and 3rd couples set and, giving both hands, turn halfway round to finish in the centre, all facing down, with nearer hands joined. 3rd couple, followed by 1st and 2nd couples, dance down for one step then cast up to first place. 1st couple cast up to second place and 2nd couple curve round into third place.
Finish in the order 3,1,2.

Dance Information

This dance was devised for Perth dancer, Lewis Bond, to celebrate a significant birthday in February 2023, Perth, Western Australia.

The dance title is a word-play on the most famous expression, "Bond, James Bond", which came out of the James Bond series of movies which focuses on James Bond, a fictional British Secret Service agent created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming, who featured James Bond in twelve novels and two short-story collections.

Suggested music: Swithland Woods, Leicester Branch Silver Collection, recorded by David Cunningham and his Scottish Dance Band.
