The Border Bridge - Scottish Country Dancing Instruction VideoDance Information
This dance was published in the booklet "The Ladies Of Dunse", a collection of dances from Duns and district published by The Duns and district branch of the RSCDS in 1995.The Royal Border Bridge spans the River Tweed between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Tweedmouth.
This Grade I listed railway viaduct, completed between 1847 and 1850 and inaugurated by Queen Victoria, was designed by Robert Stephenson, the son of George Stephenson. Serving the York, Newcastle, and Berwick Railway, the bridge remains in continuous use as a vital part of the East Coast Main Line. With a length of 659 meters, it features 28 arches made of brick and stone facing.
Despite its name, the bridge does not in fact span the border between England and Scotland, which is approximately three miles further north.
