Scottish Country Dance Instruction

1-8 1C and 2C dance a poussette.
9-16 1C dance down the middle (2C step up 3-4) cast up on own sides around 3C meet in the middle facing up with nearer hands, dance up between the second couple and cast off into second place on own sides.
17-24 1C and 3C dance a Half Turn and Cast Progression. This is a new form of progression, and is described below as an 8 bar phrase for 1C and 3C from their present positions.
 17-18 Giving RH, 1C, 3C half turn partner staying in the centre facing partner, reasonably close.
 19-20 Pulling back right shoulder 1C and 3C cast into their partner's place with 1M and 3L facing clockwise.
 21-22 Dancing clockwise in single file, all dance 4 hands across half way to own side; now in progressed positions.
 23-24 Taking hands on the sides set.
25-32 2C, 3C, 1C dance 6 hands round and back.

Repeat with a new top couple.

The deviser considered calling the progression "The Argyll Progression", as its first four bars resemble a sequence in The Argyll Strathspey. The half turn, hesitate and cast formation was devised by New Zealand dance deviser Alec Hay, who used two hands when dancing the formation in strathspey time.

Edith Campbell taught Scottish country dancing in the Wellington region of New Zealand for more than 60 years. From 1963, she taught at Wellington Club for ten years and, with her husband Bruce Campbell, founded Seatoun Club in 1978, where she taught for more than 45 years. She also taught at RSCDS New Zealand Summer Schools in 1964, 1970 and 1978, as well as at regional classes and events. Edith Campbell died shortly before the dance was devised.
