Dance Information

This dance was created for a commemorative collection marking the centenary of the Edinburgh Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in 2024.

The dance was devised by Atsuko Clement, who has been a member of the Edinburgh Branch for many years. During that time she has danced with the Branch Demonstration Team and has been involved in teaching Branch classes.

The choreography was created in recognition of Esmé Randall, who was both a friend and mentor to the devisor. Esmé was responsible for teaching many of the dancers who later became members of the Demonstration Team, and her influence remains evident in the training and development of that group.

The accompanying tune, also titled "Esmé Randall's Strathspey", was composed by Muriel Johnstone. The composition was intentionally written as a lyrical strathspey to reflect the style and quality of Esmé Randall's dancing.

The recommended music is recorded by Pete Clark on fiddle with Muriel Johnstone on piano, and appears on the RSCDS Edinburgh Centenary recording.
