Scottish Country Dance Instruction

1- 2 Top two couples (1st and 2nd couples) dance down three places, while bottom two couples (4th and 5th couples) cast up three places to finish in the order 4, 5, 3, 1, 2 (1st couple facing out).
3- 4 Couple in 2nd place (5th couple) dance down two places, while couple in 4th place (1st couple) cast up two places and couple in top and bottom places (4th and 2nd couples) set, facing up and down the lines. Finish in the order 4, 1, 3, 5, 2 (5th couple facing out).
5- 8 Repeat bars 1 to 4 from new positions to finish in the order 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. 4th couple loop into places on the sidelines.
9 - 16 Dancing couples (4th and 2nd couples) set and dance a petronella turn to finish in a line up and down the middle of the set, facing partners. Dancing couples, giving right hands to partners, turn once round (or dance a pivot turn) to finish with their backs to first corners.
17 - 32 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st couples dance "Corners Chase and Turn":
 17 - 20 Dancing couples (4th and 2nd couples), followed by first corners, pass partner by the right shoulder and dance to 3rd corner positions.
 While dancing couples set, first corners pull back right shoulders and, giving right hands, turn once round, finishing with their backs to dancing couples.
 21 - 24 First corners, followed by dancing couples, pass each other by the right shoulder and dance back to their corner positions.
 Dancing couples pull back right shoulders and, giving right hands, turn three quarters, finishing with their backs to second corners, while first corners set.
 25 - 28 Repeat bars 17 - 20 with second corners.
 29 - 32 Second corners, followed by dancing couples, pass each other by the right shoulder and dance back to their corner positions.
 Dancing couples pull back right shoulders and, giving right hands, turn three quarters to finish in 2nd and 4th places on own sides, while second corners set.
33 - 40 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st couples set and, giving right hands to partners, turn once round (or dance a pivot turn). All set.
41 - 48 2nd couple, followed by 3rd, 4th and 5th couples, lead down below 1st couple and cast to the top in 6 bars. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 1st couples set.

Repeat from new positions.
