Scottish Country Dance Instruction
Fly The W 5x32 Reel for 5C by Sue McKinnell1-8 1C and 3C lead down the center for 4 bars. On bar 5, each woman dances under their raised arms as the man dances below to change sides and 1C and 3C lead up to 2nd and 4th places respectively to end in double triangles position. 2C and 4C step up on bars 3-4.
9-16 1C and 3C dance double triangles, ending facing 1st corners. (This forms a 'W' on each side of the set.)
17-24 1C and 3C dance half reels of 4 with 1st corners, pass right shoulders to face 2nd corner positions, dance half reels of 4 with 2nd corners, and come into the sides ready for...
25-28 1C and 3C turn partners RH 1½ to end facing out on own sides while the people in the corner positions chase clockwise two corner positions around the outside of the dance, ending in the positions they started the diagonal reels.
29-32 1C and 3C cast off 1 place as 4C and 5C step up. All take hands on the sides and set.
Repeat with a new top couple.
