Scottish Country Dance Instruction

Graham's Frolic (R5x40) 40 bar reel for five couples in a square set Eddy West 2001

1-8 Fifth couple set, turn with right hand for four bars, and set facing up while the supporting couples dance eight hands round and back.
9-12 Fifth, first and third couples dance parallel right shoulder half reels of three, fifth couple finish facing fourth couple, lady on man's left.
13-16 Fifth, fourth and second couples dance parallel right shoulder half reels of three, fifth couple finish facing first couple (in third place), lady on man's right.
17-24 Repeat back to original places.
25-28 Fifth and first couples set and dance half right hands across, first couple finish facing fourth couple.
29-32 First and fourth couples set and dance half right hands across, fourth couple finish facing third couple.
33-36 Fourth and third couples set and dance half right hands across, third couple finish facing second couple.
36-40 Third and second couples set and dance half right hands across, second couple finish facing in the centre ready to begin the new turn.

For Graham Fleming for many years a teacher at Whangarei Club who likes to fit in an extra dance if a few couples are still around at the end of an evening.

Suggested music: "Lieutenant Shortland's Reel", played by Robert Whitehead and the Danelaw Band on the CD "Strictly Scottish Volume 2".
