Dance Information

Jones Falls is a stream located in the state of Maryland, United States.

It flows through Baltimore and ultimately feeds into the Inner Harbor, which is part of the Patapsco River system. The stream originates in Baltimore County and travels roughly 29 kilometres before reaching its endpoint. Along its course, it passes through a mix of suburban, parkland, and urban areas.

Much of the lower section of Jones Falls has been heavily modified. In central Baltimore, portions of the stream run through culverts and tunnels beneath the city, especially near the downtown area. This section includes the Jones Falls Expressway, a major roadway that runs parallel to the stream for several kilometres. Efforts have been made over time to manage flooding and urban runoff, both of which are ongoing concerns due to the stream's route through developed areas.

The Jones Falls has historically influenced the development of the region. In the 18th and 19th centuries, its water power supported local industry, including mills and factories. In modern times, restoration projects have aimed to improve water quality and ecological health, addressing pollution and habitat disruption caused by urban infrastructure.

The stream is part of a larger watershed, and its condition affects not only the local environment but also the health of the Chesapeake Bay downstream. Environmental monitoring and planning continue to play a role in maintaining and improving the state of Jones Falls and its surroundings.
