Dance Information

Kilmadock is a parish located in the Stirling council area of Scotland, positioned on the southern edge of the historic county of Perthshire.

It encompasses the settlements of Doune, Deanston, Buchany, Argaty, Hill of Row, Drumvaich, and Delvorich. The parish spans approximately 10 miles in length and varies in width from 2 to 8 miles, covering an area of 24,521 acres.

The name 'Kilmadock' is derived from the Gaelic 'Cille Mo Dog', meaning 'Church of St Cadoc', referencing the dedication of its ancient church. The parish church was originally situated near the River Teith until the mid-18th century. In 1746, a new church was constructed in Doune, replacing the earlier structure.

The River Teith runs east-southeast through the centre of the parish, while the River Forth forms its southern boundary. The landscape includes a broad valley along the Forth, flanked by hill ridges, and rises to the Braes of Doune in the north, culminating at Uamh Mhòr.

In 2022, archaeologists uncovered a Pictish cross slab in the Old Kilmadock kirkyard near Doune. Estimated to date from between 500 and 700 AD, the stone features intricate carvings and an Ogham inscription, suggesting the presence of a monastic settlement and indicating literacy in both Latin and Ogham scripts during that period.

The Kilmadock Information and Heritage Centre, located in Doune, serves as a resource for local history and genealogy, providing information about the parish and its communities.
