Scottish Country Dance Instruction

Kiwi Maestros (40 bar reel for 4 couples) Elaine Goldthorpe

1- 8 1st couple cast off behind their own lines and lead back up the middle to own place
9-12 All ladies advance and retire towards their 1st corner positions. (1st lady is advancing towards a space above her partner) 1st and 2nd men, 3rd and 4th men set and link. 2143
13-16 All men advance and retire to their 1st corner positions. (4th man is advancing to a space below his partner) 1st and 2nd ladies, 3rd and 4th ladies, set and link
17-24 All 4 couples dance a reel of four on their own sides. 2nd couple finish in 1st place, 1st, 4th and 3rd couples finish in centre
25-32 1st, 4th and 3rd couple dance a 3 couple allemande. 2341
33-40 All 4 couples dance 8 hands round and back

Dance Notes

1-8 Represents the travelling undertaken by our musicians, flying and then travelling together by car.
9-16 Represents the hours of practice put in by them to give us the joy of wonderful professional music to dance to.
17-32 The dancers enjoying the wonderful uplifting music.
33-40 Represents the fellowship between musicians and dancers during Auld Lang Syne.

Dance Information

This dance, Kiwi Maestros, was written in honour of the many musicians who share their passion and love of Scottish music with the dancers of New Zealand who love to dance.

It was premiered with an informal demonstration at Elaine Goldthorpe's Golden Anniversary Pop-up Social, in Matakana on 16 July 2022.
