"La Maîtresse" is a French term that can have several meanings depending on the context.

Firstly, it most commonly refers to "The Mistress", meaning a woman who is in a romantic relationship with a man who is married to someone else. This is the most widely recognized usage of the term.

In a more formal or academic context, "maîtresse" can also mean "The Teacher", specifically a female teacher, particularly in primary school settings. This usage is common in everyday language in French-speaking countries.

Lastly, in a broader sense, "maîtresse" can refer to a "Female Master", indicating a woman who is an expert or has mastery in a particular field or art.
