Lochaber (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Abar) refers to a region in the Scottish Highlands.Historically, it was a provincial lordship comprising the parishes of Kilmallie and Kilmonivaig. This area once spanned from the northern shore of Loch Leven, known as Nether Lochaber, to beyond Spean Bridge and Roybridge, which is referred to as Brae Lochaber or Braigh Loch Abar in Gaelic.
From 1930 to 1975, Lochaber was used for one of the landward districts of Inverness-shire, and from 1975 to 1996, it was one of the districts of the Highland region. Since 1996, the Highland Council has had a Lochaber area committee.
The main town in Lochaber is Fort William, with other notable settlements including Mallaig, Ballachulish, and Glencoe.
