Dance Information

Brightly coloured lanterns, strung together in a cheerful line, were once a well-known feature outside the Longborough cabins situated at Pinewoods Camp in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Pinewoods Camp is a woodland retreat situated in Plymouth, Massachusetts, nestled between two freshwater ponds.

Spanning about 32 acres, the camp is devoted to traditional dance and music. Originally developed in the early 1900s, it shifted its focus to folk dancing in the 1930s and has been used each summer since for this purpose.

The camp runs a seasonal programme during the warmer months, offering a series of sessions that range from weekends to full weeks. These are organised by different folk dance and music groups and draw participants from across the United States and beyond. Each session typically includes classes, rehearsals, and social dancing.

On-site facilities include four open-sided dance pavilions, a large dining hall with a working kitchen, and a central camphouse. Guests stay in rustic wooden cabins, most of which are spread out along forested paths. The camp can accommodate around 140 people, with shared shower and toilet blocks located throughout the site.

While many of the original buildings remain in use, some have been carefully updated to meet modern needs, including improved accessibility. Pinewoods Camp has long served as a centre for learning, preserving, and celebrating traditional music and dance in a natural woodland setting.
