Dance Information

Anne Louise Germaine de Staël-Holstein (1766–1817), known as Madame de Staël, was a prominent philosopher, writer, and political theorist active in Parisian and Genevan intellectual circles.

The daughter of Jacques Necker, a French finance minister, and Suzanne Curchod, a writer, she adopted a moderate political stance during the French Revolution, the Napoleonic era, and the French Restoration.

Exiled during the Reign of Terror and later by Napoleon, whom she opposed, she established the influential Coppet group, fostering intellectual exchange across Europe. Madame de Staël's works, promoting Romanticism and emphasizing individuality and passion, significantly shaped European thought.

Although her novels and plays are less remembered today, her analytical and historical writings remain highly regarded for their insights into public expression and its complexities.
