Dance Information

John Charles Stewart was born in Fasnacloich in 1873 and was the oldest son of Captain John Campbell Stewart. In 1899, when the Boer War started in Durban, Ian Stewart joined the Imperial Light Horse and became a Captain. He got injured during the Ladysmith siege. After returning from the South African War, he continued his military interests voluntarily.

In 1904, he began his association with the Scottish Horse, a regiment of the new Territorial Force. Captain Stewart helped raise the Argyllshire Squadron of this regiment and became its commander. He was promoted to Major in 1909.

Ysobel Campbell (founder of the RSCDS) got married to Captain Ian Stewart of Fasnacloich on January 6, 1909. After their wedding, they lived in Ayr until 1934.
