Dance Information

Ayr is a town on Scotland's southwest coast, serving as the administrative centre of South Ayrshire and the historic county town of Ayrshire. With a population of 46,982, it is the 15th largest settlement in Scotland and second largest in Ayrshire. Ayr is adjacent to Prestwick and made unsuccessful bids for city status in 2000, 2002, and 2022.

Established as a Royal Burgh in 1205, Ayr became Ayrshire's central marketplace and harbour in the medieval and early modern periods. The town features a mid-17th-century citadel built by Cromwell's forces and is near the birthplace of poet Robert Burns in Alloway. Since the railway's expansion in 1840, Ayr has been a popular tourist destination, known for its beach, golfing, and connections to Burns.

Ayr is a major retail hub in southern Scotland and was named the UK's second healthiest town centre in 2014. It has hosted the Scottish Grand National annually since 1965 and the Scottish International Airshow since 2014.
