Dance Information

Moray is a council area in northeastern Scotland, bordered by Aberdeenshire to the east and the Highlands to the west. Its northern boundary meets the Moray Firth, and the region is characterised by a mix of fertile lowlands and rugged uplands. The largest town, Elgin, serves as the administrative centre. The area includes agricultural land, forests, and part of the Cairngorms National Park in the south, where the landscape becomes more mountainous.

Historically, Moray's boundaries have changed. The present council area covers much of the historic county of Moray, though parts, such as Grantown-on-Spey, are now within the Highland council area. It also includes much of the former county of Banffshire. Moray has a rich history, having been an influential medieval kingdom, with evidence of early settlements and historical significance in Scotland's past.

Moray is best known for its whisky production, with more than half of Scotland's distilleries based there. Famous names such as Macallan, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Strathisla originate from the region, making whisky a key part of its economy. Tourism also plays an important role, with visitors attracted to its scenic landscapes, historical sites, and outdoor activities. The River Spey, one of Scotland's top salmon fishing rivers, runs through Moray, while the Moray Coast is well known for dolphin watching. The area offers extensive walking, cycling, and hiking routes through forests and hills.

Several towns and villages contribute to the character of Moray. Elgin is notable for its cathedral ruins and as a centre of commerce and culture. Other settlements, including Forres, Keith, and Lossiemouth, offer a mix of heritage, industry, and coastal attractions.
